AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. And we want you to join the District 8 team.

We prepare tax returns from February 1 to April 15 in libraries and community centers in Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Bothell, Kenmore, Issaquah, and North Bend. Our sites have daytime schedules Monday through Saturday, but no evening hours. All tax preparers are required to work at least one session (7-8 hours) per week for the 10-week filing season, but many volunteers work 2 days a week.

As you know, tax law is complicated. It takes time and training to become familiar with the rules, software, and procedures. We want you to be comfortable and well-trained to assist taxpayer with their returns. We will support you throughout the process. It helps to be a self-starter, detail oriented, a people person/team player, and computer literate.

Six Steps to Becoming a Volunteer Tax Return Preparer:

  • STEP 1: Sign up to be a Tax-Aide volunteer at Become a Volunteer
  • STEP 2: Prepare two sample tax returns using detailed instructions for online software
  • STEP 3: Nov 2014-Jan 2015 Study IRS Link&Learn Advanced Course online (20-25 hours)
  • STEP 4: Dec 2014-Jan 2015 Prepare practice tax returns (about 20 hours)
  • STEP 5: Jan 2015 Attend two days of class at the Redmond Library
  • STEP 6: Jan 2015 Pass a written open-book IRS Certification test

Once you are Certified, you will receive your time/location assignment.
